Best Treatments for Teeth Sensitivity

Do you experience discomfort or pain in your teeth every time you eat or drink something hot or cold? If so, you are probably suffering from teeth sensitivity. Some people with teeth sensitivity experience pain and discomfort when brushing and flossing their teeth. This type of sensitivity causes sudden pain or discomfort, which can be mild, modest, or severe.

The problem of sensitive teeth typically occurs when your tooth enamel is worn out, or your tooth roots are exposed. Sometimes, it could be because of cavities, cracked or chipped teeth, worn fillings, or gum diseases. This article will tell you about the best treatments for teeth sensitivity and how to prevent it.

Treatment Options for Teeth Sensitivity

The pain and discomfort caused by teeth sensitivity can be an absolute bane of your existence, especially since it prevents you from enjoying your favorite foods and drinks. That’s why you have to find the proper treatment as soon as possible. Fortunately, there are many reliable and effective treatments for teeth sensitivity that your dentist can recommend.

Numbing Toothpaste

Studies have shown that a desensitizing toothpaste can help block the discomfort and pain caused by teeth sensitivity. However, you have to use this toothpaste regularly in order to enjoy its effects. Also, you have to find the right desensitizing toothpaste. With so many brands available over-the-counter, it is very easy to make the wrong choice. If you are not sure which toothpaste to use, ask for advice from your dentist.

Fluoride

Dentists have found ways to strengthen the tooth enamel and ease toothache using fluoride. This chemical is applied to your tooth’s sensitive areas to reinforce the worn-out enamel and reduce the pain caused by sensitivity. Your dentist will advise you on how to use prescription fluoride at home. The chemical is usually applied using a regular tray.

Bonding

If there are areas of your tooth roots that are exposed, you can opt for tooth bonding. In most cases, this procedure requires local anesthesia. Your dentist will apply bonding resin to the root surface of the affected tooth to prevent sensitivity.

Root Canal

If other treatment options have failed to end the problem of teeth sensitivity, your dentist will recommend a root canal. This procedure is perfect for patients with decayed or fractured teeth. It involves cleaning the dental pulp and filling the space with dental fillings.

Gum Graft

If the sensitivity results from lost gum tissue, your dentist can harvest a small amount of gum tissue from other parts of your mouth and attach it to the affected area through a surgical procedure.

  • My hygienist was Claudia, and I now have a best friend forever. She was so welcoming and kind, put me completely at ease, walked me through all of the procedures, costs, and reasons why, and introduced me to everyone who walked in or by the door. Dr. Smith was equally as helpful and amazing. Every person went out of their way to ensure my comfort and understanding. I NEVER write reviews, and was so impressed that I couldn't wait to get home and write one!

  • We love IHDC! They do everything possible to ensure our safety, and Alaine is an absolute gem! She treats my daughter with the patience of a saint and we love her for it! The whole team is amazing!

  • If you’re a believer in good vibes and positive energy then this is the place for you. Everyone here is so warm & inviting. They really do feel like family, ya know, the ones you actually like! I’ve been going here for years but when I had my daughter, there was no question about where i would take her for her dental needs. They are so great with her and she is never nervous when we go because they just radiate positivity and make her feel so calm and relaxed. I can’t recommend them enough. Oh, they are also really great with Botox 😉

  • Could not possibly thank Dr. Houck, Gabby, and staff enough for the wonderful care I receive. In addition to excellent dentistry, their compassionate approach and communication really sets them apart. They are always kind, caring, and take time to explain things in detail. Easy to contact the office with any needs, and they are always quick to respond. Highly recommend.

  • Just wanted to leave a quick review on Claudia! She is an excellent dental hygienist. She is very thorough with her cleanings, she has a sweet personality and takes the time to explain things to you. I 10/10 would recommend Claudia to all of my friends and family.

  • Amazing place. Started taking our family there in 2014. Professional, kind, and most importantly excellent at every level of service.
